"Job" Searching as a Musician

1min Read

Hey everyone!

Today officially marks my 2nd week here in LA. In all honesty, it’s amazing and I’ve had some extremely memorable experiences exploring and going out to a bunch of different events. That being said, it’s time we address the impending reality that is finding a “job.”

For those of you who don’t know, I graduated Berklee in May 2025 with a Degree in Film Scoring which involves composing and creating music for film and various types of media. Immediately, you think of Hans Zimmer and John Williams, the big guns. I’m not there yet but if there’s you know about musicians, creatives, and artists. It’s that you basically you have to create your own path, you have to create your own career. If anything, the most profitable Music Industries include:

  • Teaching (Music School, Private Lessons, Formal Education)

  • Music Business (Artist Management, Sync Licensing, A&R, Event Producers)

  • Engineering (Live Sound, Mixing / Mastering Engineer, Audio Director)

Throughout my Berklee career, I’ve accumulated plenty of skills alongside curating lots of events. These skills are extremely valuable and transferrable but in regards to the job spectrum, my skill set still primarily revolves around music. I’ve applied to Event Companies and while I have plenty of experience putting on different concerts, productions, and shows, they will prefer someone who’s racked up experience within corporate settings, in other words, experience with profit. I have yet to create that repertoire but if anything, this is simply what it means to be an emerging creative in the artistic world.

So far in LA, I’ve applied to many kinds of jobs but nothing has popped up yet which is understandable. That being said, I’ve attended many different events and am slowly building up my relationships here in LA. In many ways, it feels a lot like being a freshman in Berklee again, except this time, the focus is creating a living and not succeeding in school.

I’ll provide some updates in the coming newsletters, praying for more opportunities!
